The Camano Center coordinates dozens of day trips every year. Join us as we shop, dine, enjoy great local events and activities, and make some wonderful memories. Get out and have some fun, and leave the driving and parking to us!
Trips are priced very reasonably, and member discounts apply. See below for our list of scheduled trips.

SAM (Seattle Art Museum) – “Miro: The Experience of Seeing”

Always a favorite destination!!!

          The Seattle Art Museum offers an outstanding permanent collection ranging from suspended cars to Northwest Native Art, with a wide variety of contemporary & traditional art in between.  While you’re there, be sure to see the special exhibit of surrealist art by renown Spanish artist, Joan Miro. ($8 Admission to this special collection – specify when you sign up if you want us to order you a ticket.)  Browse the wonderful gift shop & lunch at the museum’s TASTE restaurant.  If it’s a nice day, take an outdoor break at Olympic Sculpture Park nearby, or stroll on over to Pike Place Market.

Admission to SAM is FREE on 1st Thursdays.   Special Exhibit (Miro) $8

Skagit Valley Chorale “Celebrating in Song” McIntyre Hall, Mt. Vernon

                “The Skagit Valley Chorale exists to enrich the lives of all interested singers and concert audiences in the Skagit Valley
by expressing the human spirit through choral music.”

This amazing vocal group has performed at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Mozart Choral Festival in Salzburg and Vienna, and St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.  Now we have a chance to experience their talent here as well!

Everett Philharmonic  4th Season Finale  “Listener’s Choice”  Everett Civic Auditorium

Stageside Chat with the Maestro and guests at 6:00PM (and your chance for the best seats in the house!*)           Performance from 7:00-9:00 PM

Featured in a 5-page layout in STRINGS magazine, “How a Blue Collar Town Saved its Symphony Orchestra” the Everett Philharmonic has come back from near-death!  Here’s your chance to support their amazing rebirth and enjoy the best of this season’s offerings.

          The Stars and Stripes Forever of John Phillip Sousa will open the evening’s festivities. Conducted by the winner of our 2014 Gala Auction, this stirring work will readily prepare the audience for Antonín Dvořák’s Carnival Overture. One of his most endearing works, the Carnival Overture will ignite the audience’s emotions and delight the senses.

          Then, harpist Juliet Stratton will take center stage performing with the EPO in Camille Saint-Saën’s Morceau de Concert for Harp and Orchestra. This gorgeous harp concerto is not only guaranteed to demonstrate the virtuosity of the harpist, but it will also leave the audience mesmerized.  

          The evening concludes with a masterpiece of fantasy, Scheherazade. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, a wizard of orchestration, pulls out all the stops in Scheherazade. Based on thematic features of The Arabian Nights, this monumental piece will invigorate the audience with its charismatic themes and captivating artistry.

Cottage Lake Gardens  “Tea & Trilliums Tour”

It’s all about Trilliums! – beautiful wildflowers that often bring back fond childhood memories of walking through the woods in early spring. 

          This fun event takes place at Cottage Lake Gardens, a two-acre botanical garden on the east shore of Cottage Lake in Woodinville, Washington.  One of the only gardens in the world you can see all 48 species of trilliums growing in one place!

          Your day begins with an indoor tea enjoying light refreshments using vintage trillium china, followed by a talk on trilliums describing their fascinating evolution, descriptions of the different types, how to grow them in your own garden along with many beautiful photos of the most popular species.  By the end of the talk everyone is so excited about trilliums that they can’t wait to go outside and tour the Trillium Trail.  Afterwards trilliums and other companion plants will be available for purchase while supplies last.

Paine Field Aviation Day

We’ll start the day with brunch at the One Twelve Street Diner,
where you will enjoy the charm of a fifties decor in a friendly atmosphere that serves only the finest local ingredients and welcomes you like family.  Choose from a wide range of great breakfasts to give you plenty of energy for the day ahead!

When you're all fueled up, we'll go on to Paine Field in time to see the Warbirds fly from 12:00 – 1:30 PM, leaving you plenty of time to explore and enjoy all there is to see & do.  Admission gives you access into Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage Collection and Historic Flight Foundation. Take a flight, meet the pilots, see one-of-a kind aircraft, talk with the flight school, and watch thrilling flying demonstrations.

June 2014 Camano Center Trips

June 6 (Friday) -SORTICULTURE

          Now in its fourteenth year, Sorticulture is a beloved festival that fills scenic Legion Park in north Everett every June.  The leafy, green setting and gorgeous view of Port Gardner Bay add atmosphere to an impressive gathering of high-quality embellishments for the garden.  Featured artists create distinctive handcrafted art for the garden, including an array of blown glass, metal art, lanterns, whimsical birdhouses, unique ceramics and pottery, birdbaths, kinetic sculpture, mixed –media creative re-use, and more.

June 23 (Senior Monday) PACIFIC SCIENCE CENTER

EXHIBIT: “SPY: The Secret World of Espionage”

          Where shoes listen and coins can kill.  Experience over 200 Artifacts and technological advances that defined the success of tactical missions.  What was once classified is now revealed.  Come join us and explore the tools of the spy trade.

 IMAX: “D-Day: Normandy 1944”
A tribute honoring the 70th Anniversary of the landing at Normandy narrated by Tom Brokaw in IMAX 3D. 
The film highlights some of the technological advances that were crucial to the success of the mission in 1944 that changed the world.

Suggestions are always welcome.  IMPORTANT – Decisions about the coming month’s schedule must be made by the 1st of the PRIOR month in order to be included in the newsletter (i.e., May trips must be planned in April, June trips in May, July trips in June, etc.) , so please share your wonderful ideas well in advance of the date of the event! (Theater and Cruise trips usually need to be planned at least 2 months in advance.)  REMEMBER – both the Bus (seats 14) and the Van (seats 6) are available for Charters for trips that you and your friends especially want to take.
