Basil Badley

Basil graduated from the Gonzaga School of Law in 1960. He served as an Assistant Attorney General for six years representing the Department of Institutions the first year and the Office of Insurance Commissioner the next five. He left the Attorney General's office to enter the private practice of law in Seattle. He was a founding partner in the firm now known as Carney Badley Spellman in Seattle. His legal practice evolved from active trial and appellate experience to insurance administrative law and legislative advocacy. In 1989 he married Mary Margaret Haugen and moved to Camano Island. He has been a member of the Stanwood Camano Kiwanis since the early 1990s. He served as a regent for Gonzaga University for two years and was a member of the Independent Colleges of Washington for four years. Basil took the Master Gardener course at WSU in Mt. Vernon in 2006 and he remains a member of the Skagit County Master Gardeners. Basil also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Whidbey Camano Land Trust. Basil is the chairperson of the Auction Committee and also is a member of the Human Relations Committee. Basil was appointed to the board and will serve until June of 2010.
