MISSION, PURPOSE AND PRIMARY PROGRAMS OF CAMANO SENIOR SERVICES ASSOCIATION
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Camano Senior and Community Center is to provide programs, activities, services, and educational opportunities for seniors and the community of Camano Island. (Board of Directors approved April 2008)
PURPOSE
CSSA was incorporated April 15, 1982. The purposes for which the corporation are:
- To provide social, economic, educational, recreational, and other activities for the benefit of retired persons, the disabled, and youth of families residing on Camano Island and surrounding communities.
- To solicit, seek, earn and obtain private and public funds to meet the needs of retired elderly, disabled and youth of families on Camano Island and surrounding communities.
- To do all things reasonably necessary to carry out these purposes.
MAJOR PROGRAMS
- Nutrition. Hot meals are prepared at the Center and served three days a week in both a congregate setting and to Meals-on Wheels clients. CSSA also provides the dietary supplement, Ensure, on a donation basis.
- Senior Information and Assistance/Case Management. S. I. & A. helps link people over 60 with the services and facts they need to stay independent. Case Management takes S. I. & A. one step further as it provides in home assessments, develops plans of care, provides on going monitoring and reassessments of client needs. Call Ginny Berube at (360) 387-6201
- Volunteer Chore Program. Provides a link between concerned and dedicated volunteers who provide transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and disabled (18 years of age or older). Volunteer drivers are compensated for mileage.
- Senior Transportation. Provides door-to-door van service once a week to Skagit County for medical, nutritional and social purposes for those over 60 who are unable to drive. (service is not available at this time, but planning on restarting program in September of 2008.)
CSSA also provides an informative monthly newsletter, weekly schedules in local newspapers, daily blood pressure monitoring, a foot clinic four times a month, loans medical equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, etc.), college level classes, informational speakers, entertainment, charter trips, and sponsors a variety of support groups.
