Computer Class

Pre-registration and payment of tuition at time of registration is required. Registration open to all ages. No refunds after first class.  (Register at the Center or call 387-0222)

 COMPUTER CLASSES

Does your computer confuse and befuddle you?  Do you need to know more about how to make it do all the things you know that is SHOULD be able to?  Join us for these fun and engaging classes taught in a non-technical way.  Each course is held in 90 minute sessions and has time for your questions.  You can even bring in projects that you are working on for help.  The For Beginners session is designed to introduce you to the basics and help you feel more comfortable using each application.  The Intermediate session is designed to help those who have some experience with each application to learn some new tricks.

 

All classes are held in our Computer Lab using Microsoft Office 2003 with specific help for those using Office 2007.  Web browsing is done in Internet Explorer.  You are welcome to bring your own laptop and will save $5 by doing so.  Save even more by being a member of the Camano Senior and Community Center too.

 

Understanding Microsoft Word

Four 90 minute sessions exploring Microsoft Word!

Understand what the software can do for you while learning how to:  save, print and format documents, using clip art, making signs and more.  

 

Understanding Microsoft Excel
90 minute sessions exploring Microsoft Excel!

INTERMEDIATE EXCEL

Learn how to create more complex formulas, use your spreadsheet in other programs, design tools to help you make decisions and more.

Three 90 minute sessions exploring Microsoft PowerPoint!


BEGINNER POWERPOINT
Understand what the software can do for you while learning how to: create, save, print and find designs for presentations.  Learn how you could use this software a lot more than you think.

INTERMEDIATE POWERPOINT

Learn how to create your own presentation designs, automation, how to creatively use graphics and sounds and other way cool things to make your next presentation much more exciting!


Understanding Microsoft Outlook
Three 90 minute sessions exploring Microsoft Outlook!

OUTLOOK

Intermediate level only!  Learn how to set-up your e-mail accounts, how to manage your contacts, calendar and your to-do list in this very comprehensive program.

 

INTORDUCTION TO COMPUTERS
Four 90 minute sessions exploring the world of computers! This course is specifically designed for beginners and those scared of “messing it all up”.  In these hands-on sessions you will learn about computer hardware, software and all the other things that leave you staring at the screen.  Bring your fears and we’ll take care of them for you.

Understanding Cell Phones

Introduction to the Internet and E-mail
Two 90 minute sessions. 

EMAIL/INTERNET INTRO

This hands-on workshop explores how the internet and e-mail can make your life easier and simpler.  Learn research skills and how to communicate with others while become savvy about how to discern the truth, the half-truth and the bold lies that exist in the digital age.

 

What’s Inside Your Computer?
One 2 hour session. Intermediate Computer Knowledge.  Ever wonder what is inside your computer?  Ever open the lid and sit wide-eyed at all the chips, cards and wires?  Ever wonder if it is better to upgrade your computer or buy a new one?  In this two-hour hands-on workshop we will literally tear apart a computer and talk about each component regarding what it does, what can go wrong and what you can do about it.  This is a great session for anyone whether they want to upgrade their computer or just are curious what it all is.  No mumble-jumble, just an interesting and sometimes entertaining way to explore the wonderful world of technology.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR THE FOLLOWING CLASSES: 

All students bringing laptops must have WIRELESS CARD. All classes are four sessions  of 1.25 hours each. No software purchase necessary. Instructor: Joyce Lukaczer, Camano Island professional graphic designer & website developer. 

Digital Camera & Basic Computer Photo Management (beginner)
Required to enroll: Digital Camera with USB-to-computer interface cable. Home computer running   Windows XP with broadband internet connection. (Please bring camera and cable to class.)

CLASS

Objectives:
* Learn how to transfer digital picture from your camera to your computer.
* Learn how to organize and view your digital pictures on your computer.
* Learn how to send digital pictures as e-mail attachments.
* Learn how to burn digital pictures to CD for storage and/or sharing.
* Learn basic image editing (resize, remove red-eye, crop, etc).
* Learn how to send your digital images from your computer directly to be printed as photographs.

Digital Image Editing and Photo Retouching (intermediate)
Required to enroll: Home computer running Windows XP or Vista with broadband internet connection. Please bring a collection of digital photos on CD or flash drive (minimum of 5-10 high resolution images).

Objectives:
* Learn basic image editing (resize-to-repurpose, crop, basic color correcting and image enhancement, sharpening, red-eye, etc.).
* Learn how to organize your digital images on your computer.
* Learn how to create online image slideshows to share with friends/family/clients.

Photo Album Class: Create a Photo Album From Your Favorite Digital Photos (beginner/intermediate). 
Objectives:
* Learn how to create a photo album of your favorite digital images for high quality printing.
* Learn how to download and install the free MyPublisher Photo BookMaker software.
* Learn how to select your photo album layout, organiZe your photos and design your book.
* Learn how to preview your photo album and order your book online.

Create your own Website: Create a Personal, Portfolio or Business Website or Blog (intermediate)
Objectives:
* Learn how to create a website or blog using the FREE online hosting and software at http://wordpress.com
* Learn how to set-up your website account.
* Learn how to layout the design of your website using templates.
* Learn basic image editing (crop, reduce and resize for the web, etc.).
* Learn how to add, edit, and replace website content.
